Would it be possible to make this component viewable only to registered users and would that lower the load on the server? That's always my biggest concern.

LifeStream is a killer in terms of loading times, its scripts cannot be pushed to the footer and a bunch of other things. A great plugin, but needs a lot of things ironed out.

I am looking forward to embedding BuddyPress with WordPress once the 3.0 merge has been done and therefore that's what I'm testing it with. Given that this is a strange combo, should I even bother reporting the oddities I encounter et cetera?
